The people of Maldives are kind-hearted and helpful; they are family oriented and have successfully adapted modern lifestyles without compromising on their traditions. When you visit a Maldivian home, you will be greeted with delicious snacks with glass of juice or will serve tea as a tradition.

Part of the enjoyment of travel is experiencing local culture. Learning how others live. Understanding through history and religion how a country was established. Tasting new cuisines. Each and every islands are different in its environment. You can enjoy observing daily life of local people living in the local islands. Meeting new people, sharing stories and developing new friendships.

What would be a visit to the Maldives without immersing yourself in the local culture? Enjoy playing football with Maldivians or join to play volley ball in the evening. Get ready, you may wear a normal shoe or may play without shoes. Get ready and go to the ground or an area where they play football or volley ball, the people happily will welcome you. Or you may enjoy Playing Cards, Carom or chess with local people.

You must not leave the Maldives before trying out at least a few of the Maldivian short eats known locally as hedhika. Many of these are unique to the Maldives and come in sweet, sour and spicy varieties. Garudhiya: a fish broth served with rice, lime, chili and onions (Traditional Lunch - dinner). Fihunu mas: barbecued reef fish that has been smoked grilled with chili added to meals. Mas huni: shredded smoked fish with grated coconuts and onions mixed and eat with Chappti. This is considered the most popular breakfast food in the country.

Rice and fish are the staple foods. Fish is the most important source of protein in the average diet. Now a days vegetables are eaten in the form of salad or in the form of curries to mix with rice. Betel leaf with areca-nut, cloves, and lime, known as "dhufaa ehchehi" is chewed after meals.
